The WPT Korea Championship Event reached a winner in Mate Hanusi from Hungary. Mate Hanusi started the day with the lowest stack and slowly built it by playing tight and choosing the right time and positions to make his move.
At heads up, Ma Li dominated Hanusi with the amount of chips that she had, but following his tight aggressive strategy, Hanusi chipped at her tower of chips slowly until the final hand where Hanusi went all-in with pocket 8s pre-flop. Li called with A9, and although she had numerous outs by the turn, she didn’t get to improve her hand, making Hanusi the WPT Korea 2024 Championship Event winner.
Hanusi brought home KRW 434,936,000 (~US$321,700), the WPT Main Event Champion Trophy and the WPT Korea 2024 Championship Ring.
Interestingly, Hanusi won his Main Event entry from a $110 online satellite at WPT Global and had one shot to make it through. A huge profit for the Hungarian, his run at this season’s WPT Korea is definitely one to remember.
