The Asian Poker Tour makes a triumphant return to Taipei, packing a punch with a staggering $2 million guaranteed prize pool for its flagship event.
Taipei, once again, plays host to the Asian Poker Tour's grand revival, marking the beginning of a new era. The decision to kickstart the 2024 season in Taipei underscores the unwavering trust placed by the organizers in this vibrant city. With a whopping TWD 150 million guaranteed prize pool for the entire series, the APT is poised to shatter its own records and set new benchmarks in the realm of poker tournaments.
On the opening day, February 28th, remarkable figures were recorded for Event #1: the National Cup. The inaugural event boasted an impressive guaranteed prize pool of 15,000,000 TWD (~1500 entries), all this while maintaining a buy-in of just 10,000 TWD.
The event comprised 5 flights for Day 1, each flight fiercely contested to secure a spot among the top 15% of the field eligible for prizes, with an additional 6% bagging chips to advance to the Final Day. Predefined prizes were allocated for ranks ranging from 6% to 14.99%:
6%-8.99% = TWD 25,000
9%-11.99% = TWD 20,000
12%-14.99% = TWD 15,000
For Flight A, on February 28th, a total of 488 registrations were tallied. Flights B and C are scheduled to compete on the following day, Thursday. Meanwhile, Flights D and E are set to battle it out on March 1st, Friday, just before heading into the Final Day on Saturday of this week.
APT Trophy New Era
The main event is currently boasting an incredibly impressive guaranteed prize pool of 65,000,000 TWD, equivalent to approximately $2 million USD, all backed by the event's organizers. However, here in Taipei 2024, the stakes have simply doubled.
The Main Event is set to run from March 3rd to March 9th, with the final opportunity for late registration and the commencement of Day 2 on March 6th. The entry fee stands at 70,000 TWD, approximately $2,270. The anticipated champion is expected to walk away with a prize of around $285,000.
